Spooner Advocate- Springbrook Column, November 6, 2014

Good day friends-  Sorry I missed last week. School and work have been kicking my backside and there never seems to be enough time in a day to get everything done. I hear other people talking about this too so I guess I cam not the only one that is feeling this. I do have to say that I am glad its a little lighter out there now that we have fallen back an hour. I seem to drag myself around when it is dark in the morning and dark early in the night and then dark all day long! LOL

I want to wish all the hunters out there good luck! Please be careful and really pay attention to your surroundings and who and what is around you. I already hard of someone that fell out of their stand because of faulty equipment and someone who shot a bow hunter cuz he thought he was a squirrel. Check your equipment before you need to use it and replace it if faulty. Know who is around you and know what you are shooting before you shoot.  Have a successful hunting season! Fill those freezers up!

Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwa Community College is hosting a College Fair and Higher Education Youth Experience on Thursday November 6, 2014. It will be held in the Cultural Resource Center and the Student Center from 9:30- 2:30 PM. This is a great event for high schools to bring the future students to LCO and see what they want to do when they graduate. There will be representatives from other Colleges and Universities that will be here to answer questions and give people some direction. Sure would like it if the Homeschooling groups out there came and checked out the fair! Everyone is welcome here at Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwa Community College- you do not need to be Ojibwe to attend LCO! Hope to see you there,

Do you know anyone that would like to get their GED? Maybe its you that would like to get your GED and go on to take some college classes. Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwa Community College is both a place where you can study for your  GED as well as test for it. f you would like more information please call 715-634-4790 and ask for Nicole.

Strange request but if there are any hunters or trappers out there that do not want their hides, bear fat, feathers, etc please let them know I would be interested. I use various things in soaps, lotions and beaded items. Also anyone have any porcupine quills. I appreciate any help!

Does anyone out there have sewing/quilting items that they are no longer using? Reason I ask is that we have been holding sewing classes at the college and there are always people that do not have a machine. If you would like to donate anything like this just let me know and I can figure a time to pick it up. I know I am a sewing machine collector- I have an old singer (doesn't work), my Grandma Andre's machine, and the machine my friend Anita gave me- this is an oldie but goodie and what I sew on! Anita gave me this machine when I decided to get back into quilting- she also shared a rotary cutter and mat with me! She is awesome!

Happy birthday to all the people in November!  Happy birthday to each one of you- you are special! November folks- have a beautiful day and remember we love you! Hugs!
